The head count

"Head count": look at each child and say their name as you count. If the number differs from who is signed in, say what happened. Record the count.

The head count: look at each child and say their name as you count; the number signed in now; Record the count.

More about this

The dialog shows "Signed in now: n" and whether your own children are in the count. A count that differs from the register asks "What happened" before it records, so the record says why. "Due" on Today shows when the next head count falls; your agency sets how often (the demonstration's is every hour). Every child must be supervised by an adult at all times, on or off the premises (s. 11); the counts are how you show it, and from January 1, 2027 the agency's supervision policy says when, how and how often children are counted (s. 11(2)).

Your agency's words for people and its policies may differ; the screens are the same. The screen is from KeepCount 0.99.144, captured October 27, 2026 in a demonstration organization: everyone in it is fictional. Section numbers are O. Reg. 137/15 (General) under the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, read on e-Laws on October 20, 2026. This explains how KeepCount works; it is not legal advice, and the Ministry's program advisors decide compliance.
