Accessibility
Built to be used by everyone on the staff
KeepCount is built to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA, and the public pages are tested against it on every change. Here is what that means in practice, what is not there yet, and how to tell us when something is in your way.
What we do
- Tested on every change
- Every public page is checked with an automated accessibility test at phone width before it is published, and the build fails on a violation. Keyboard sign-in is part of the same test.
- Contrast and size
- Every text and background pair is at least 4.5 to 1, including when an organization chooses its own colours; the colour code enforces it. Touch targets are at least 44 pixels. Type is 15 pixels or larger in the app and 17 on the site.
- Not colour alone
- Every status shows a word and a shape as well as a colour: met, due soon, overdue, not applicable.
- Keyboard and screen readers
- Everything can be reached and operated from a keyboard; headings, landmarks, labels and live regions are in place for screen readers. Motion is kept to state changes and switched off when your system asks for reduced motion.
- Phones
- Staff and providers use KeepCount on their phones. Pages work at 320 pixels wide with no sideways scrolling.
Known limits
- PDF certificates
- Training certificates are generated as PDFs that are not yet tagged for screen readers. The same information is on the certificate page in the app, and we will send an accessible version on request.
- Printed binder
- The inspection binder is a printable page; it reads well with a screen reader on screen, but the printed copy is for the inspector’s table.
- Third-party pieces
- The Turnstile check on public forms and Stripe’s payment pages are built by Cloudflare and Stripe; both publish their own accessibility statements.
Tell us
If something in KeepCount is hard to use with your equipment, or you need a document in another format, write to [email protected] with "accessibility" in the subject. A person answers, usually the same business day, and the fix goes into the next release.
